| In early 2005 the Gladwin County Chamber of Commerce began a series of economic meetings. They brought together community leaders and economic development experts to explore a county-wide economic initiative. As a result, in the spring of 2006, the Gladwin County Commissioners created the Economic Development Corporation of Gladwin under Act 338. The EDCGC has a board of 13 community leaders with the mission of growing the economy of Gladwin County. As the lead economic development agency for Gladwin, the EDCGC works in cooperation with several local agencies and organizations on economic programs. It acts as a facilitator for community businesses and industry in securing assistance from local, state, federal, and private sources. It also maintains contact with economic development leaders from outside the county to ensure access to sound advice and best practices for the benefit of Gladwin County.|
The focus of the EDCGC is
(1) to retain the businesses and jobs in the county,
(2) to work with existing businesses in their expansion plans
(3) to attract new businesses to locate in the county and
(4) to assist in new business start-ups.
If you are a person who would like to get involved in this broad-based community effort by serving on one of our committees, please contact us. If you have a business and are looking for assistance in any area, we are interested in talking to you. Please call Bob Balzer, EDC Director, at (989) 426-8571 to set up a meeting.
