The Historical Society was an outgrowth of the 1975 Gladwin County Centennial Celebration, and Paul P. Pennock was its first President elected in December 1975. The first Gladwin County Historical Museum was in the 1912 Gladwin Depot which was dedicated Sunday, June 24, 1979. During the 80's five log buildings were moved and reconstructed on the site of Cedar Village at 515 E. Cedar Avenue. The Gladwin Depot had been moved to that location in July 1977, thanks to the City of Gladwin and a long-term lease. Cedar Village was completed in 1987 with the addition of a one room 1900 school house. In late 2007 Don and Yvonne Hall came to the Gladwin County Historical Society with a proposal. They would donate their buildings at 221 W. Cedar Avenue to the Society if they committed to operating it as Historical Museum for a minimum of 5 years. The proposal was agreed to and on November 8, 2012 the Gladwin County Historical Society Museum officially took possession to the building at 221 W. Cedar Avenue. The current Gladwin County Historical Museum continues to be open regular hours Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. The phone number is 989-426-9277, and the web address is www.gladwinhistory.org
